The first league game of the season, and the Warriors travelled up to Risca in proper rugby conditions - wet, heavy, and exactly the kind of morning that sorts out the committed from the casual. After a preseason defeat the previous week, the boys had a point to prove. Risca had a strong and aggressive pack ready to make it difficult.
It took some patience but Whitchurch eventually opened the scoring with two back-to-back tries to take an early 14-0 lead. Risca hit back - some great breakdown work and a momentary lapse in concentration from the Whitchurch defence gave them a route back into the game.
This time the heads didn't drop. The Warriors dug deep, kept their composure and found their rhythm again - spreading the ball well through the backs and controlling the breakdown much more effectively in the second half. Some lovely tries followed, and Whitchurch ran out 43-15 winners to kick off the league season in style. 🖤🤍
