Gethyn is a prop, which means he spends his Sundays in the engine room of the scrum doing the job that holds everything else up.
The front row is the least glamorous place on the pitch and the most important. It is where the scrum is won or lost, where the opposition's pack arrives all at once and somebody has to be there to meet it. A prop is, in the plainest sense, a load-bearing wall. Nobody notices a good one until it goes missing, and then everybody does.
Gethyn wears the number 1 shirt, which makes him a loosehead prop, and he has been trusted with it. He has started at number 1 in three of our matches this season, away at Gilfach Goch and New Tredegar and at home to Penarth, and he has been on the bench for two more, including the cup game at Ferndale. That is exactly what you want from a front row forward: ready from the first whistle, and ready to come on when the legs of the pack need freshening up.
And a front row forward is a modest sort of player by trade. His best work happens in the tight, in the dark, under the weight of eight other forwards, and the credit usually goes to somebody running through the gap he has just made. Gethyn gets on with it anyway, because that is the job, and because the Warriors do not move forward without people willing to do it.

Backing our players, one season at a time.
Gethyn is proud to be sponsored this season by Birch Glazing, a friendly and professional family glazing business with over 25 years of experience.
They are used by well known contractors in the property industry, and they pride themselves on a speedy service delivered with a friendly, professional approach while keeping the quality of the work as high as it can be. They cover the South Wales area and beyond, and offer a free quotation to anyone who gets in touch.
It is a fitting match. A family business that has been getting on with the job for more than 25 years has a lot in common with a prop: reliable, hard working, and more interested in doing it properly than in making a fuss. A glazier also spends the day making sure nothing gets through the window, and a loosehead prop spends the afternoon making sure nothing gets through the front row.
Sponsorship like this is what keeps this team on the pitch. It covers kit, tournament entries and the travel that gets the boys to games, and it means every player gets the same chance whatever is going on at home. Our thanks to everyone at Birch Glazing for getting behind Gethyn and the Warriors this season.
