Whitchurch RFC Under 15s
Jay wears the 10 shirt at outside half, and he is a cornerstone of this team.
Ten is the position everyone watches. The outside half decides what the team does with the ball: when to run it, when to kick it, when to hold on and go again. Get that right and the whole side plays well. Get it wrong and the pressure lands squarely on you. It is the most exposed job on the pitch, and it takes a cool head to do it week after week.
It is not just a decision-making role either. A good ten has to take the ball flat and under pressure, put the right pass on for the runners outside him, kick for territory and goal, and tackle when the opposition come back the other way. Jay does the lot, and he does it while everyone else is looking to him for the answer.
Players like Jay are the ones a team is built around. He has been a big part of the squad's rise over the last few seasons, from a group that once struggled to field a full side to a team that went on to win the Pencoed Festival. When the game needs somebody to take control, he is the one who does it.

This one is a bit special. Most shirt sponsors are businesses. This is one grassroots rugby club putting its hand in its pocket to back a player at another. Two volunteer run M&J sections, a few miles apart, both trying to get as many kids playing rugby as they possibly can. That is the game at its best.
Caerau Ely run teams from U7s right through to U16s and are always recruiting. They also offer a free creche for 4 to 6 year olds, easing families in through tag rugby before the age grades start properly. Removing the barriers that stop kids playing is exactly the sort of thing that keeps community rugby alive.
