Whitchurch RFC Under 15s
Ollie plays on the wing, which is the one place on the pitch where there is nowhere to hide.
A winger can go ten minutes without touching the ball and then be asked to win the game in three seconds. You have to stay switched on through all of it, because when the ball does come your way it usually arrives with somebody already bearing down on you and no time at all to think about it.
It is not just the glory end of the job either. Wingers field the kicks nobody else can get back for, cover the corners, and make the tackle that stops a certain try when the opposition break clear. Ollie does that side of it as well as the running.
He is a genuine dual code man. When he is not on the wing at Hailey Park he turns out at football for Heath Park Rangers, and the two games feed each other more than people think. The footwork, the awareness of space, the knack of knowing where the touchline is without having to look for it: that all travels.
Off the pitch he is a serious operator on the PS5, with Fortnite and Call of Duty taking up most of the screen time. He will also tell you, entirely straight faced, that he is a former tiddlywinks champion. The club has seen no evidence either way and is choosing to believe him.

Backing our players, one season at a time.
Ollie is proud to be sponsored this season by Zero Alpha Solutions, a Welsh technology company who describe themselves as leaders in expeditionary energy and information systems.
In plain terms, they build the kit that keeps people working in places with no mains power and no comfort: hybrid energy and battery systems, communications, tactical heaters, lighting, and even a hand crank generator for when there is genuinely nothing else. Their customers are military forces across the UK and Europe, and their strapline is Deploy Lighter, Last Longer.
Zero Alpha have gone well beyond sponsoring a single shirt. They are the team kit sponsor, and they have also given us pitch side lighting for Hailey Park. Anyone who has tried to train through a wet Cardiff January knows exactly what that is worth. It is the difference between calling a session off and getting the whole squad out there on a dark, soaking Wednesday evening.
There is a nice symmetry in a company that lights up the hardest places in the world also lighting up a rugby pitch in north Cardiff. Diolch yn fawr from everyone at Whitchurch RFC U15s.
